In September 2020 NWARG held a special event station GB1STC to celebrate “chapels on the air” from the smallest chapel in Britain, The Holy Well and Chapel of St Trillo, Colwyn Bay, North Wales
The chapel stands on the foreshore at Llandrillo yn Rhos, Rhos-on-Sea, Colwyn Bay. Its a simple stone and mortar structure with integral walls and roof and has a heavy wooden door.
The altar stands over a natural spring of clear water dedicated to St Trillo and St Elidan and was first established by Saint Trillo early in the sixth century AD. The chapel has seats for six people and is used for an Anglican Eucharist every Wednesday. The spring water is traditionally used for baptisms in that parish which has two other Anglican Churches.
We have all struggled through the Covid-19 Pandemic in one way or another be it contracting the virus, loss of loved ones, financial troubles etc. Well this equally applies to many businesses thought the world including zoos who of course rely on their income generated through visitors to pay not only their running costs but to feed the animals.
Well it came to our attention at NWARG & Eryri-DX that this was indeed the case with our local zoo, the Welsh Mountain Zoo in Colwyn Bay who are struggling to pay for food to feed the animals in their care. Obviously people can get out and do something to help themselves in many cases, but animals in captivity cant so it was decided at very short notice that we would spring into action and set up a Special Event Station, GB0WMZ (Welsh Mountain Zoo) to raise awareness of the plight of our local Zoo.
Our President, MW6MLI, our Chairman 2W0NKS and our Vice Chairman MW6TMQ setup HF, VHF, and CW stations on Rhos on Sea promenade on Sunday the 21st of June 2020 being very careful that they complied with all Covid-19 Social distancing regulations.
David MW6MLI spent the morning talking to people about the zoo and its struggle and of course about the radio club while Martin 2W0NKS worked VHF and CW and Tony MW6TMQ worked HF.
We made some 20 contacts and spoke to many people who were mostly interested in the radios and of course the Zoo so all in all we achieved our aim of informing people about the situation that the zoo finds itself in at the moment.

How would you like to have a hobby that allowed you to make contacts and friends all over the world? How would you like to join a hobby with loads of different avenues for you to explore? How would you like to join a club that belongs strongly in learning about radio and importantly friendship and support throughout its membership?
Sounds interesting doesn’t it? but what is HAM radio all about? Well put simply Ham Radio, is the use of radio frequency spectrum for purposes of non-commercial exchange of messages, wireless experimentation, self-training, private recreation, radio sport, contesting, and emergency communication.
The NWARG foundation online sessions started today with John Pritchard (MW0JWP) holding online sessions for both foundation and Intermediate license candidates. John covered a variety of topics ranging from License conditions to some technical matters such as calculating resistance. Martin Moyse (2W0NKS) also covered Feeders and Antennas. The sessions are scheduled for weekly delivery in Facebook Messenger chat rooms and are open to all NWARG members to join.
GB1KEY is a joint Special Event Station between the North Wales Amateur Radio Group and Eryri-DX. Both clubs are located in North Wales, United Kingdom and share the same club HQ, The Northwood Hotel, Rhos-on-Sea, Conwy, LL284RS
From the 1st of May 2020 through to the 28th of May 2020 we are running a joint Special Event Station, GB1KEY to celebrate all of the hard work that Key Workers are doing in North Wales and indeed all over the World during this terrible Covid-19 Pandemic. Key Workers World wide have been doing an amazing job whether they are our hero nurses and doctors, health care workers, Police Officers, religious staff, Delivery Workers, Supermarket Staff, Military, Firefighters, Transport Workers, and Infrastructure workers to name a few. Our Key workers have been working tirelessly around the clock during this unprecedented crisis and for this we thank them.
Due to the current situation with Corvid 19 all club nights, the AGM and Exams are suspended until further notice. We feel this is the sensible thing to do. We will monitor the situation and notify everyone when normality resumes!
Our Group’s first major get together DX-ing
finally took place on Sunday 2nd Feb 2020 at the public car parking area
next to the GB2ORM D-Day site location as of June 2019.
Our Club Chair, Martin Moyse (2WONKS) was bright and early yet again and in position well before 07.00 hrs ! complete with his Icom 7300 and HF half size G5RV all set up.

a couple of counterpoises , along with x2 Yaesu 450-D’s inside the c van.
Meanwhile Martin was already doing well on various bands
,but the weather was just a bit too
windy for Peter to work portable with
his CW set up as now it was getting biting cold and only really suitable
for staying in a car or the c van, so
got kettle on (EVENTUALLY) and we sat very cosy in the c/van.
Martin was transmitting on 40 mtrs, so we set up Yaesu’s on 20 & 80m but our first QSO’s into
Europe were at 11.00hrs into Hungary, Italy,
Belgium, Poland and the usual German stations around at that time of the
