Tell us about the radio equipment that you own ?
I have previously owned a Yeasu 857, Anytone 878, Yeasu FT70D, and maybe some more I have now forgotten about! Right now I own an Icom 7300, an Anytone 778 and a Yaesu FTM400DXR. The Icom is a stunning HF radio with waterfall display and the Yaesu FTM is a twin receive dual band FM rig with APRS etc, a great radio.

Tell us about the antennas that you own ?
I own a Diamond X6000 base antenna, a 22m end fed long wire for base use and a half size G5RV for field day use. I am however building a cobwebb antenna for base use at the moment.

How & Where did your interest start in Radio Communications ?
Like many people, my interest started many years ago with CB radio.

What Equipment did you first start with (Receiver ? Transceiver ?)
As an amateur I first started with a cheap handheld radio from Amazon but soon tired of that and bought a Yaesu 857

Did you join a club straight away ? If so which Club ?
Yes, NWRS

What has been you most memorable moment in Amateur Radio ?
I suppose the GB2ORM special event station, even though it was rather like the Falkland islands over the weekend on the Great Orm. It was a stunning weekend with lots learned and a great time spent laughing with good friends.

What do you like best of all about your hobby ?
Mainly the people in it that are so friendly.

What would you like to see in the future of your Club ?
As the chairman I would like to see the club grow and flourish but ultimately I would like to see the club become whatever the members want it to become.

What do you like best as being a member of a Club ?
The people in it, its not all about radio either. Its great to be in a club that supports its members in so many ways other than radio. We have a moto “RF” which stands for “Radio and Friendship” and this is very evident in NWARG

Name your favourite equipment ?  & mode of operation ?
My Icom 7300 and to be fair I enjoy all modes of operation.

How would you like to progress further in your hobby ?  (New Equipment  to Purchase /Projects to Build / Licenses & Awards to Gain)
I would like to gain my full license.

How do you see your future in Amateur Radio
I am happy with my achievements to date but would like to spend more time on field trips.

Anything else you would like to add?
Just how proud I am to be a member of NWARG.

How & Where did your interest start in Radio Communications ?
Building crystal sets whilst at school, fascination with cw and wartime communications etc. Swl a great deal.

What Equipment did you first start with (Receiver ? Transceiver ?)
My first hf rig was a Yaesu ft200, valve driven, and the finals would ping on use. Then an ft 707, that worked for 34 years, until it blew up four years ago.

Did you join a club straight away ? If so which Club ?
Meirion Amateur Radio Club in Dolgellau, as I lived in Tywyn at the time.

What has been you most memorable moment in Amateur Radio ?
CW transmissions still hold a certain magic for me, as to how far a low power signal will travel. USA and southern hemisphere on 4w, old valve equipment still working is always memorable.

What do you like best of all about your hobby ?
The technical stuff, my friends in NWARG, have met people who are true friends and will help you with any problem, the fun, banter and camaraderie is brilliant, as well as special event stations, that are hilarious, at times serious, but so enjoyable. So happy to be involved with NWARG, as we seem to have the right balance of seriousness and sillyness!

What would you like to see in the future of your Club ?
To carry on as we are and help one another as and when needed, self training, special events, trips out to special places or events, oh and Tony Mottram to be serious !!!!

What do you like best as being a member of a Club ?
Its membership and fellowship of kind hearted people. The fortnightly meetings are always a pleasure and go too fast. Built up a network of dear friends and associates.

Name your favourite equipment ?  & mode of operation ?
QRP operation, with cw portable HB1A in a travel case that is similar to a B2 spy set, 4w output and not knowing how far that signal will travel. My faithful 817nd on ssb or cw Low power portable ssb with a 10 to 20w transceiver is so much fun. When on holiday in Croatia, I take the ft 891, LDG Z100 Plus, connected to a G5RV, using ssb, drinking local red wine and chilling out in the shade. So different than being back home. My e enigma decoding machine was a big project that took time and much effort, now decoding messages from WW2, Fascinating modern history.

How would you like to progress further in your hobby ?  (New Equipment  to Purchase /Projects to Build / Licenses & Awards to Gain)
Answer Provided: More valve stuff, see more use of cw, hoping to start cw classes in the near future, rig restorations and use of camo colouring on rig casings to enhance their appeal to other members.

How do you see your future in Amateur Radio
Staying involved in NWARG, helping those starting off in the hobby and offering assistance when and where needed, and keeping fit and well to continue enjoying what we do now.
